The best thing about Firefox is the way it lets you do whatever you like with it. If you love the fox as much as I do, and have shunned all the other browsers for Firefox like I have, but cant help being frustrated when sometimes it slows down because you have 40 tabs open in four different windows, or you can’t afford to upgrade your RAM to a reasonable amount… yet (like me), here’s something that will cheer you up. It doesn’t matter if you are a computer rookie or a seasoned veteran in this field, these few easy-to-do tweaks will really get Firefox performing just as fast as you want it to; probably even faster.
By tweaking the way Firefox handles some caching functions, you can improve the page load speed and even free up the RAM it is hogging while minimized. Do not fear if you have never touched your configuration file before, just follow these simple steps and you’ll have it done in no time.

Microsoft is not well known when it comes to free software for pubic domain. but for for bloggers there is some good news. Windows Live Writer 2009 is here for download and still it is free.
Although focused at Windows Live Spaces, Windows Live Writer 2009 is one of the best tools available for general purpose bloggers. Its earlier version is part of the daily life of many professional blog writers.
I myself love it. I admire the new 2009 version even more. As a matter of fact I am an open-source proponent but the convenience of using WLR 2009 is so great that I too had to accommodate it as my primary post creation tool. I was introduced to WLR 2008 by Paul (A fellow Author on this Blog) Now we are both convinced that it is a great productivity tool with a excellent interface and superb features.

Thanks for reading “How to Double the Firefox browsing speed on dialup connections”. As we all know, firefox is taking over the browser’s market with it’s improved features and enhanced security. It is so far the fastest browser out of the box among its major competitors like I.E. and Opera. Still there is lot’s of room for improvement in firefox. Fortunately due to open nature of the browser it is not difficult to tweak your browser to get the optimal browsing speed.
I have compiled here a list of tips and tricks and tweaks that I have done to my browser to get most of my slow slow connection. It should work for you as well. I have done some site loading time tests before and after these tweaks.I have seen a 80% increase in performance. I am eager to hear from you about your experience with this.
- Type about:config in the address bar and hit Enter.
- In the filter search bar type network.http.pipelining. Be sure the value field is set to true, if not double-click to set to true. (HTTP is the application-layer protocol that most web pages are transferred with. In HTTP 1.1, multiple requests can be sent before any responses are received. This is known as pipelining. Pipelining reduces page loading times, but not all servers support it.)

Most of Internet connections are working below capacity. A simple bandwidth test would reveal that your own Internet connection is working well below its capacity. some times below 60% of the bandwidth is utilized. Below are some of the tricks I have collected that may help you get most juice out of your internet connection.
Increase bandwidth by tweaking QoS in Windows XP Pro
The following tweak applies only to Windows XP Professional edition. The default system behavior is that all 100% bandwidth is available, however, if there is a running application that indicates to the OS it needs to send high priority/real time data, then as long as it has the socket open, Windows XP will restrict “best effort†traffic to 80% of the bandwidth so that high priority traffic can be accommodated. Basically, applications can make this request to the operating system for QoS support using the QoS application programming interfaces (APIs) in Windows and this only applies if a specific app is requesting QoS.
If you’d like to change how much bandwidth is reserved for QoS (the default is 20% of the total bandwidth), do the following:
-
-
Make sure you’re logged in as “Administrator” (not just any account with admin privileges).
-
Navigate to START>Run and type: gpedit.msc
-
Navigate to Local Computer Policy > Administrative Templates > Network > QOS Packet Scheduler
-
In the right window, double-click the limit reservable bandwidth setting
-
On the setting tab, check the enabled setting.
-
Where it says “Bandwidth limit %”, change it to read 0 (or whatever percentage you want to reserve for high priority QoS data)
-
Click OK, close gpedit.msc
-
Under START > My Computer > My Network Connections > View Network Connections, right-click on your connection and under Properties (where it lists your protocols), make sure QOS Packet Scheduler is enabled.
