The long awaited Google phone, Nexus One, successfully fulfilled all our expectations. Just as predicted, it is giving the iPhone a tough time, appearing as its competitor.

It has now acquired a large share in the market. So here is a list of the top seven applications that will make your Nexus One more useful.

1. Dialer One

This app a good substitute for the stock dialer present in Nexus One. It enables the user to search for a contact using dialpad alphabets, giving details about the last call logs, which can be set by the user by specifying the time period ranging from 1 week to unlimited entries.

2. Gesture Search

This clever little app lets you write on the screen with your finger when you want to search for a contact and feel too lazy to use the keyboard. You can also configure it to work with the browser, apps and music folders.

3. Twitroid

If you are a Twitter fan, then this app is a must. Twitroid is better than any other twitter app. With this app, you can get minute by minute to hourly updates(depending on your choice) of the tweets happening. Together with features like direct messaging and opening the link or the entire tweet, Twitroid is quite a powerful app which lets you use twitter just like you do on the computer.

4. Google Sky Map

If you are curious about the different stars, then use this app to find out which stars are directly above you along with their names and positions. A nice app you can use while strolling in the park or just sitting on your front lawn.

5. Executive Assistant

With this app, you can get a collective picture of your recent phone calls, Facebook, Email, Gmail, Twitter, RSS and calender updates on a single screen. You can also configure it to run as start-up screen right after boot up or as display screen when the phone is locked, enabling you to view the updates constantly.

6. Robo Defense

This is an adventurous, addictive game which can keep you occupied for hours. You will have to defend your base against different enemy foot soldiers, tanks, robots and aviation. Although you might start loosing patience in the beginning but with careful planning, you can have the enemy defeated.

7. Splat Bugs II

This is a great time killer and quite addictive too. The game tests your reaction time and skills when you need to splat bug infestation in your phone screen. However, you will have to play carefully as three wrong hit will make you lose the game.
