5 Things You Need To Know About The Apple iPad

Posted on 19 March 2010

Although the pre-order for the iPad has started, but if you still don’t know what an iPad is and what can you do with it, here is a list of the main five points that distinguish an iPad from the rest of the devices.

Apple iPad

1. It looks like a big iPhone

If you compare it with the iPhone’s 3.5 inch screen, the iPad’s 9.7-inch one looks huge. But with the single home button that typical icon layout style, you can immediately recognize it as one of Apple’s device. Being half an inch in thickness, it weighs around 680g. The battery life is upto 10 hours if used continuously, or a month on standby.

2. There are apps!

Fortunately, the iPad will be able to run all the iPhone apps, which were 140,000 at the last count. You can run them at the original 3.5-inch size, or view them on full-screen at lower resolution.

3. It is extremely fast

Apple has kept its good reputation about speed. The iPad’s user interface transitions are smooth and there is no lag. The iPad is equipped with a 1GHz Apple A4 chip making it work really fast.

4. Old UI, new tricks

Although the user interface is much similar to the iPhone, but Apple has thoughtfully used the iPad’s extra screen space to incorporate some pretty cool new features. The biggest changes are the drop-down menus that make navigation even more easier. The onscreen keyboard is also very easy to use, although i’m sure there will be many more accessories available to connect to the iPad later, such as a physical keyboard for those who don’t like writing on the screen.

5. You can probably afford it

You can get the 16GB WiFi model without 3G for only $499 in the States, with a $100 dollar premium for the 32GB version ( if you want 64GB, you’ll have to pay an extra $100 on top of that). Moreover, all models add 3G for $130.
